CPA's Summit on the States - December 6-7, 2003 - Capital Hilton, Washington, DC  The 2003 Summit on the States was a huge success, despite wintry weather conditions. Congressman Elijah Cummings gave "one of the most inspiring and motivating" speeches ever presented to progressive state legislators, according to one observer. Legislators and advocates alike filled rooms to capacity to learn about "how to win your re-election", "talking about civil marriage equality", and other issue workshops critical to the 2004 legislative sessions.

CPA 2003 Awards Dinner - December 5, 2003, Washington, DC   At this special event, CPA honored the Visionary Leaders and the 2003 Flemming Fellows who have joined CPA in promoting progressive change in the states. This year's honorees, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, American Viewpoint Founder and CEO Linda DiVall, AFL-CIO Executive and Civil Rights Leader Richard Womack and Georgia State Representative Nan Grogan Orrock, represent CPA's commitment to giving voice to women, people of color and the LGBT community. We are proud of these allies and of our own work throughout the year.

CPA Selects 30 Legislators for the 2004 Flemming Leadership Institute  Congratulations to the 30 state legislators selected to participate in the 2004 Flemming Leadership Institute. The diverse members of the 2004 class have demonstrated superior leadership ability, dedication to public service, and a commitment to use government to implement practical policy solutions.
