PROGRESS ON POLICY...

California Governor Signs a Broad Array of Legislation Into Law   Shortly before the recall election, California Governor Gray Davis approved progressive solutions to a myriad of problems, including laws banning e-mail spam, protecting individuals' financial information, halting the use of flame-retardant chemicals that pose a health risk, requiring large and medium-sized employers to provide health insurance for their workers, and encouraging the recycling of used televisions and computer monitors. In an effort to expand immigrant rights, Davis signed a bill granting undocumented immigrants the right to apply for driver's licenses. He approved a landmark law extending to same-sex couples who register as domestic partners many of the rights and responsibilities granted to married spouses. Davis also approved state-issued identification cards for medical marijuana patients and caregivers.
